My recent visit to Rudolf Steiner was an absolute amazing experience. I learned so much in beautiful Waldorf-inspired classrooms. This training taught me important skills such as movement, singing, storytelling, and essential resources for the classroom.
The thing that inspired me and surprised me the most about the Waldorf approach was the importance of movement. After learning various ways that movement affects the sensory in the brain, I can't help myself to finding out more ways to incorporate different activities of movement in our classrooms. It was amazing to see also how much movement makes the classroom a community. As teachers, we felt comfortable with one another as should our students and these such activities helps build the family element of a class. Water -coloring, knitting, and storytelling were among other things that I had the pleasure of practicing hands-on along with many other Waldorf teachers from around the world. Many of this practices has provided a basis and foundation that I will bring to Seaside and looking forward to implement. We also were able to explore the environment of a 1st grade classroom. We started in morning circle outdoors with some wonderful songs to start our day. Morning circle was then followed by a main lesson using our main lesson books created by us. After our main lessons followed storytelling where as teachers we had the opportunity to practice and share a fairytale of our choosing, which was both fun and creative. Lastly, as a community of 1st grade teachers we built our gross motor skills by learning how to hand knit and needle knit. I want to sincerely thank the Seaside family for allowing me this opportunity to explore and be inspired by others in the Waldorf community. Looking forward to the many memories we will make as a team and family. Thank you!
